Voice of SHEROES: Shakun Vijay Survives A Bumpy Life By Finding Her Passion For Counselling
“This gave me a tag of unsatisfied nomad. This decision was not sudden, something was cooking inside me from last 2 years telling me I am not made for it and marks are just a veil.”
My teary eyes and angry parents were a usual scene after every parent teacher meeting during my primary school years as academically I was a below average student. For me, it lasted for few hours, I don’t know about mom and dad.
A change in school and environment brought me to the top of result list- the biggest surprise in my life till date. After secondary school, being a topper I was expected to opt for science but commerce being something new and unexplored came as an escape. Later, I landed up doing chartered accountancy, completed it 75% with meritorious marks and then left it. This gave me a tag of unsatisfied nomad. This decision was not sudden, something was cooking inside me from last two years telling me I am not made for it and marks are just a veil.
My new found love was to become a counsellor, an unexplored path. Though I was not pretty sure about it but sure enough to leave accounting behind. This was a big change as I invested four of the most crucial years of student life in pursuing accounting. Every night was hell, I grew to be an insomniac. I knew counsellors may not make as much money as CAs, but with dark-circled eyes and everyone’s opposition I began counselling course. With its completion, I began my practice and was hired by my own school drawing sufficient satisfaction and money. I thought rest of the life would be fun. Wedding bells rang, that too with my childhood friend taking me to seventh heaven.
I wasn’t mature enough to realise that my hubby is posted in a remote location - with very little scope for my newfound profession. The next one year was full of mixed feelings of happiness on personal front, at the same time feeling of being useless and unutilised energy killing me on professional front. I again got placed as school counsellor in the only big school of that town. But some of my energies still remained unutilised. Soon that was that was taken care of as I was spotted by Avani Parekh, the founder LoveDoctor.in on SHEROES. Life was smooth for a year and a half, as I was using my craft counseling online.
Recently a new bump in life left me shaken with my hubby’s relocation and me being out of regular job once again. This was the time I felt; I won’t have a stable career whole of my life.
Working with LoveDoctor helped me to maintain my calm. During this period LoveDoctor merged with SHEROES and I became a part of rocking SHEROES family completing a full circle. I can’t say how successful I am, but to achieve whatever there is in my professional bag, I fought, had great falls, again fought and will continue my fight with all the bumps gearing up to come to my way. I know I am not alone going through this, but sharing usually helps.
(Shakun is one of the great counselors on LoveDoctor.in and the SHEROES helpline - talk to her about your bumps and see if sharing helps you like it helped her)
