Questions You Must Ask Yourself Before Quitting Job
Is it me or switching jobs is now considered fashionable? We millennials take pride in hopping from one job to another, without spending a considerable amount of time in any particular job profile.
Companies are facing challenges of unique nature; the ‘loyalty challenge.’ Look at the numbers. According to the India findings of the Deloitte's fifth annual Millennial Survey, 52% of millennials surveyed in India said, given the choice, they expected to leave their current employers within the next two years. That figure increased to 76% when the timeframe was extended to 2020.
In a scenario like this, companies are sapped of the young workforce at a rapid rate. But the latest Deloitte millennial survey 2017 has factored in economic, political and social upheavals in the past year. BREXIT, unstable Europe, the US presidential election, has toned down this aggression to a large extent. According to the survey, millennials are now less likely to leave the security of their jobs, have become more pro-business and realised its wider social impact. Freelance and flexible work options are becoming their hot favourites. So, the landscape is changing at a fast pace. The right way to put it is that the jobs’ market is in a state of flux.
The reasons vary from a change in work culture, feeling of stagnation of simply chasing the moolah. If money is your main motivator for work, then job-hopping can certainly help you along the path, especially if you are early in your career.
But hasty decisions do backfire. At times, it gets crucial to stand back and assess the impact of our decisions. Whether to switch from one job to another adds any value to your career? Or is it just another way of running away from a situation? Are you prepared to move forward or you are simply running directionless?
Ask yourself these questions before quitting your job. You can’t go back after tendering your resignation. So, think sensibly before putting down your papers. There might be a lot many things you could have learned from your current work. After all no one can hold you back at gunpoint, but stability counts.
