Women represent half of the world's population, and against the backdrop of the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030, it becomes imperative to work towards women empowerment. Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and UN Women's Empowerment Principles, the 6 edition of the Global Economic Summit focuses on Women Empowerment in the social and economic spheres.

The Global Economic Summit is the flagship annual event of World Trade Centre Mumbai and All India Association of Industries. After having successfully organized the 5th editions of the Global Economic Summit, the 6th edition (GES 2017) of the summit will deliberate on the theme ‘Women Empowerment: Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Capacity Building.’ The 6th Edition of the Global Economic Summit on Women Empowerment is being organized with a view to provide an effective platform across sectors for women to voice their concern and issues which need to be dealt at government, bankers and at institutional levels.

We live in a dynamic world which is controlled by technology that has revolutionized and converted the world into a global village. The Summit will identify platforms through which women can connect across the world, enhance their business opportunities, meet challenges, learn and equip themselves and other women towards empowerment

The three-day Summit will deliberate and showcase diverse facets of women in various socio-economic spheres. The event will set out a roadmap for future action plans and programmes to encourage women’s participation in the economic development process.

The Summit will host discussion on national policies and international programmes supporting women’s participation, opportunities and challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in the global marketplace, the role of women in global value chains, women’s contribution to the SME sector through entrepreneurship and innovation, women in the informal economy and the role of NGOs in capacity building

An exhibition will be held alongside the Conference, which will involve participation of women representing a wide range of businesses, SMEs, institutions and NGOs. The exhibition will showcase products and services reflecting the accomplishments of women entrepreneurs and innovators in the sectors of health and wellness, arts and crafts, textile and apparel, household items, banking and insurance services, women clusters, livelihood intervention programmes, educational institutions, social entrepreneurs and NGOs.

Another key highlight of the Summit will be pre arranged business-to-business meetings (B2Bs) that will provide opportunities to new generation and established women entrepreneurs to interact with new partners and collaborators with a view to expand their businesses both domestically and globally. The Summit will also provide ample networking opportunities for women at the conference, exhibition and cultural events to engage in meaningful dialogues with a view to advance their business acumen and competitiveness.

300 delegates from across 20 countries including India, are expected to participate in the prestigious Summit. Experts, policymakers, women entrepreneurs and NGOs from across the world will gather at the Summit to discuss on issues pertaining to women's participation in various socio-economic activities, including trade and business, leadership role, institutional support, education and skill development, gender equality, among others.

The Summit will provide an insight into how diverse businesses around the world are implementing Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) and striving to achieve the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), set forth in the 2030 Agenda.
