“I wanted a new cellphone, had already asked my husband to budget it in our finances six months back. Tonight after serving his favourite meal, I brought up the topic of a getting the new iPhone… his tone of voice suddenly changed, he started yelling at me loudly in disagreement. I countered, trying to reason out my demand… he could not take it, pushed me hard… Snap! I went on the kitchen floor.” This was not the first time Reema had suffered violence at the hands of her husband.

Months passed, his aggression increased, he was now unstoppable. Reema’s family and friends could see her being broken down… bit by bit. Finally, her sister intervened and introduced her to a counsellor.

Reema met the counsellor along with her husband. The sessions helped improve their relationship status and progressed into being a satisfied couple, they once wished to be.

A lot us women hold onto an abusive relationship for way to long. Giving up on a relationship is not easy, nor is it the solution of it… but to stay is even more harmful.

When in such dark circumstances, remember to reach-out to friends and family, voice your opinion and seek professional help. Have faith, things are bound to get better with a little support.

You are not the only victim of domestic violence, the entire family suffers specially the children. Here is a small video, showing how domestic abuse at home affects the mental health of kids:

“Has he ever trapped you in a room and not let you out?

Has he ever raised a fist as if he were going to hit you?

Has he ever thrown an object that hit you or nearly did?

Has he ever held you down or grabbed you to restrain you?

Has he ever shoved, poked, or grabbed you?

Has he ever threatened to hurt you?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then we can stop wondering whether he’ll ever be violent; he already has been.”
