Why A Little Bit Of Daily Fitness Is A Must for Healthier, Happier Me!
“I stretch my arms wide open, take a deep breath, and thank the universe for the wonderful day.”
As I start my day with a morning walk, that’s how I connect with myself. I believe that having a daily fitness routine is a must for me. Studies have proven that just 20 minutes of exercising of any kind -- Pranayam, sprinting, or brisk walking, can change your whole outlook towards the issues in your life.
Well, the physical benefits of exercise are well-known. But it was the rejuvenation and the positivity that a daily walk adds to my day, which surprised me!
Getting started…one step at a time
Initially, I found it really hard to follow a regular fitness routine. It happens with everyone and we leave it midway. The same happened with me. It took a few tricks and a great deal of self-discipline to set the momentum.
First, I had to conquer my own inhibitions - I'm lazy, I won’t be able to do it, etc. Second, I started slowly, beginning with a walk twice a week which I then made a daily thing. Third, I enjoyed it. If I had worked hard at office and stayed late, I avoided a walk the next day because I didn’t want it to feel like a mandatory assignment. It had to be fun-filled so that I could keep myself motivated.
Fitness is more than just body!
There’s a saying – “Well begun is half done.” After building up a routine, I really don’t wish to quit now, ever.
What I have realised is that it’s not about pumping iron or being 20 kgs lighter. In my case, a daily fitness routine helped me enjoy the calm of nature in the morning. That, to me, is one of the biggest perks of a daily fitness regimen, however short it may be.
Plus, I get time to be with myself, get my thoughts sorted and begin my day full of enthusiasm. I realised that a fitness routine is not just about health, but about happiness too.
Often, we think of exercising as being all about the body – but fitness time also became precious me-time for me - and showed me that it was a lot more about the mind!
