You just told your friend that you’re going to start the job search and she enthusiastically responds with, “Send me your resume, I’ll send it around.”

How do you send something as powerful as possible? The solution is easier than you’d think.

We reached out to our in-house HR team and here are seven things that completely puts them off in a resume!

So be sure not to:

1. Get too personal

Employers may base their decisions on personal data – gender, photo, sexual orientation, data of birth. By not including such information, you prevent the possibility of discrimination. 88% is the job rejection rate if you include your photo on your application.

2. Include spelling errors and poor grammar

3. Steal the Job Description’s Exact Wording

Be sure to explain your relevant work experience in detail and in chronological order with the latest being on top. Do align your dates and locations to the right. This small change will make your resume way easier on the eyes.

4. Include Random, Unrelated, or Off-Putting Hobbies

5. Bend the truth

Everyone adds a little sparkle to their resume, but avoid the temptation to go overboard. 96% of the organisations reported conducting some form of background check on every employee.

6. Overload the resume with information

Show off your communication skills by slimming down your resume. Concentrate on the relevant details.

7. Pin down your ‘fun’ contact email address

iambatman@whatwereyouthinking.com. Your ‘fun’ contact email address, while expressing your personality, may cost you a potential interview. 76% of the CVs are ingnored if the email address is unprofessional. Congratulations you're rejected.
