What Travelling Across 10 Cities Taught Me About Women In India?

Organizing and running over 15 community meets in around 10 cities across the country gave me the opportunity to interact with 100s of women. This helped me understand what they are looking for, their aspirations, dreams, expectations, constrains and problems. Community meets brought together smaller groups of women from the community. Which meant deeper and in-detail conversation with the women. Here are some interesting observations after interacting with all these women:

Women like to share their stories

Everybody has a story and every story is unique. Women are always happy to share their experiences and learnings with everyone in the room. Innumerous women shared their stories, spoke about themselves. There were bike riders, empty nesters, corporate employees and mothers. They connected with each other and found something in common. 

Inspire and get inspired 

There were women looking to get inspired, the ones who had fallen off the track and were looking for their calling. The stories of the ones who had been there done that became their source of inspiration. If not from team SHEROES, they found help somewhere in the room. 

They have similar problems and requirements 

From Delhi to Kochi, most women were looking for similar opportunities and had the same asks. They wanted someone to listen to them and give them solutions. Interestingly, if someone had problem, someone else in the room had some solution for them. Those who seek help – get it.

Sorority 

Most women wanted to stay connected, they still connect over tons of things on our local community WhatsApp groups. The groups are always buzzing with information, opportunities, events and resources. It is a sisterhood of sorts, that brings women together and connects them.
