What should be your Fashion Statement at Work?
Women often believe that if they dress well they will feel good. Being presentable does help you to face the world more confidently. However, there should be a difference between the way you dress while at a social gathering with your friends and how you present yourself at the workplace.
When at the workplace, it shouldn’t be much about fashion do’s and don’ts (unless of course you work for a big fashion house or magazine) as much as being well turned out.
Here are some basic tips to follow,
Simple and Not Revealing
Women at the workplace do need to set an image. They need to be respected and gauged for their skills and not just the way they look or dress. If you were to go all out and go to work like as though you were going for a party, you’ll get the attention (both wanted and unwanted attention) from people all around. This is not what you should typically strive for.
Focus on wearing simple, well cut clothes like shirts, smart and long dresses, trousers and coats to create a respectable image for yourself.
Formal Works Best
You may feel most comfortable in your favourite pair of worn out jeans. However, it is always better to stick to formal clothing (unless you work for an ad agency or in the creative field). Invest in well cut trousers and shirts to achieve this.
Coats and Scarves
The best part about being a woman is that you can mix and match so many different types of colours and clothes to achieve a smart look. Invest in coats and scarves that add that dash to a simple white shirt and black trouser. You can use the coats for when you have to attend formal meetings.
Toned down Colours
Try not to dress in hues that are too bright or flashy. Dark colours help you achieve a more formal look. However you can also invest in smart natural shades like beige, light peach and so on.
Never Anything Too Tight
You may have a body to die for, but at the workplace it always helps to wear clothes that are not too fitting. Stick to well cut clothes but not those that show off your well toned curves!
A few tips to keep in mind:
-Dress as per the industry you work for.
-Understand the difference between a formal and informal look
-Observe how your immediate female seniors dress at the workplace
-It is important to be presentable and not just fashionable
