Have you just founded an enterprising entity? Do you aspire to be a great leader at the workplace? As a woman entrepreneur you probably understand more about the challenges women face at the workplace, because you are one! One of the greatest challenges aspiring women professionals have to overcome is balancing their professional and personal lives well. So as a leader, how can you help?

Productivity versus Long Hours

Focus on productivity. If your staff can or is able to finish the required tasks within a few hours, you don’t need to make them stay at the office from 9 to 5! They can leave earlier if their work for the day is done. It’s about productivity and not necessarily working long hours that count.

Flexibility is the Key

We live in a digital time. If your new Operations manager (who is a woman) has a small baby at home, you can explore the option of flexible work timings for her. Set her up with a working laptop and internet connection if she doesn’t already have one. Allow her a few hours to work from home so she is able to manage her work and her personal life.

Invest in the Weekend!

Most international companies function only between Monday to Friday. The weekend is usually time to unwind. Indian companies on the other hand tend to include Saturdays as working days or at the most give every alternate Saturday off. Some may allow employees to leave half day on Saturdays. If your employees have enough time to unwind, they may be more productive at work!

Bring your child to work day!

If you have a fair share of women employees, and its holiday season – you can opt to have a ‘bring your child to work day’ on every Friday. The children can get together in one room and play games, watch interesting movies or just see what their mothers do on the job. Top IT companies like Emphasis have ‘Bring your Child to Work Days’ sometimes and they arrange activities for the children when they do! Performers are brought in or workshops are conducted to entertain the child!
