A suspected ISIS terrorist was killed in the wee hours of Wednesday after almost 12 hours of anti-terror operation carried out by the Anti-Terrorism Squad in Lucknow’s Thakurganj area.

Raids were conducted in different cities of UP, including Etawah and Kanpur, after the police force received inputs from Telangana regarding terror suspects involved in Tuesday’s Madhya Pradesh train blast, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Daljit Chaudhary said.

“After opening the doors of the house (where the terrorist was holed up), the force went inside and found the suspect dead along with weapons,” ADG Chaudhary said.

Chaudhary said the operation now stands closed. The National Investigation Agency team has also reached Lucknow to carry out further investigations.

Police have seized eight pistols, 650 rounds of ammo, gold, SIM cards, cash, passports, a train timetable, explosive material among other things.

ADG Chaudhary, while speaking to India Today on Wednesday, said that the terrorist was a “hardened criminal” who fired around 60 rounds of ammo on commandos.

Earlier, it was being said that there were two terrorists holed up inside the house.

Slain Terrorist Linked to MP Train Blast?

Inspector General ATS Aseem Arun confirmed that the slain terror suspect was an active member of the ISIS.

“The slain terror suspect belongs to the Khurasan module of the ISIS and was an active member. But, whether he has been indoctrinated or not is a matter of investigation,” Arun said.

Anti-terror operations were carried out to get hold of terrorists suspected to be linked with the Bhopal-Ujjain train blast near Jabdi station in Shajapur district of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, in which at least 10 people were injured.

Three persons were apprehended from Kanpur and nearby area on Wednesday morning, said UP Director General of Police Javeed Ahmad.

Speaking to the media after the anti-terror operation was over, Arun said:

The ATS commandos then stormed inside the house after issuing a warning to the terrorist who then shot at them. This was then appropriately retaliated by the ATS commandos, informed Arun.

The two rooms were thoroughly searched, and the person identified as Saifullah was found dead.

The commandos also saw a wire wrapped around the stomach of the terror suspect, Arun said.
