Shekhar Gupta, Randeep Hooda’s Twitter War over Martyr’s Daughter
Actor Randeep Hooda took to Twitter to approve of Virender Sehwag’s reaction to Gurmehar Kaur’s post.
Journalist Shekhar Gupta however was not impressed by the Sehwag’s and Hooda’s posts, accusing both of them for resorting to low tactics to mock the 20-year-old daughter of a Kargil martyr.
Gurmehar Kaur had released a video on Thursday, wherein she expressed her own feelings against the ABVP. She did so by holding up a card that read her message against the organisation. Virender Sehwag’s tweet was his interpretation that same format.
The entire exchange started with Virender Sehwag’s reply to Kaur, which Hooda applauded.

Shekhar Gupta replied to both Hooda and Sehwag, expressing his own disappointment at their tweets.
Sad, from you, Viru & Randeep, big-hearted stars. Nobody's patriotism needs certificates & hers has stamp of her father's supreme sacrifice https://t.co/6UAc98i2tH

Hooda then proceeded to claim that Gurmehar was a ‘poor girl’ being used as a front for a political message.
@ShekharGupta @virendersehwag what's sad is that the poor girl is being used as political pawn and it seems you are a party to it ..

Gupta was quick to rubbish Hooda’s claim, defending Kaur and referring to her as a ‘strong, thinking adult’.
You're welcome to call me what u want. She's no "poor girl" or "pawn." She's a strong, thinking adult who speaks her mind, handle patriarchy https://t.co/cKhgAumFcf

Kaur herself directly responded to Hooda, claiming she was not a pawn, and that she condoned violence in any form. In his defense, Hooda felt that her original post was open to interpretation.
@mehartweets @ShekharGupta @virendersehwag I agree wth u its is absolutely wrong..have a feeling it's not limited to that in interpretation
— Randeep Hooda (@RandeepHooda) February 26, 2017
Gupta took Kaur’s side once again, saying that while any interpretation was allowed, it needed to be backed by debate and not mockery — which he accused Hooda of.
This has gone utterly OTT. Patriotism can have many definitions & layers. Needs robust disagreement & debate, not mocking. My limited point https://t.co/b3AH36d8Ga

Hooda tried calming the situation by claiming that he was simply admiring Sehwag’s quick wit on Twitter – for which he has acquired quite a bit of fame.
I humbly submit that I admire Viru's wit but must question if it trivialises a serious argument. No, I don't see any irony here, I'm afraid https://t.co/xpxqFWILOG

Barkha Dutt also joined the conversation, after exercising her own freedom of speech, after Hooda defended Sehwag for expressing his own.
@BDUTT @mehartweets @virendersehwag even if it was a "boy" it'll be the https://t.co/9K2bTa2QjZ on the other hand are being very judgemental.where is FOE?????
— Randeep Hooda (@RandeepHooda) February 26, 2017
After regarding Kaur as a ‘pawn’ and a ‘prop’, Hooda curiously back-tracked on his statements, asking everyone to ‘not politicise the young girl’s thoughts’.
@BDUTT @mehartweets @virendersehwag let's take a chill pill.Violence is wrong,peace must prevail & not politicise the young girl's thoughts
