Powerhouse Serena William’s Inspirational Open Letter For Women
Serena Williams, is synonymous with excellence in sports. Her recent open letter for women to dream big, is your potion of inspiration for today.
Winner of 21 Grand slams, her personality is not just constricted to the tennis court. Off the court, she’s known to be a fashionista, philanthropist and has also tried her hand at acting.
So when this kickass tennis player opens up about her life and shares valuable life lessons, you must listen to it carefully and apply it in your life.
As a woman I can relate to her, when she says that she wanted to be the best tennis player, not the best female tennis player. Here are some of her powerful quotes from the letter.
“….my dream was to be the best tennis player in the world. Not the best “female” tennis player in the world.”
Stop categorizing men and women, where it’s not needed. Typically our segregation starts from the misconception we have been fed since our childhood, that men are physically stronger than women. They’re just as strong or weak a man could be. Also, not overlooking the fact that they bear children!
“I learned how important it is to fight for a dream and, most importantly, to dream big. My fight began when I was three and I haven’t taken a break since.”
Don’t give up on your dreams. People will always find ways to pull you down. You shouldn’t let them get hold of your better judgement. Strive for excellence and pursue it relentlessly.
“So when the subject of equal pay comes up, it frustrates me because I know firsthand that I, like you, have done the same work and made the same sacrifices as our male counterparts.”
The gender wage gap debate has acquired spotlight in the recent days. Celebrities from Kangana Ranaut to Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and even a stalwart like Meryl Streep, have condemned the prevalence of wage gap.Acknowledging is the first step toward change. The status quo can’t be transformed overnight, but accepting the gender gap as a norm is dampening to the aspirations of women.
People call me one of the “world’s greatest female athletes”. Do they say LeBron is one of the world’s best male athletes?.......we should always be judged by our achievements, not by our gender.
Bang on Serena! I am not a female content writer, just a content writer. Nothing wrong on being called a woman, but professing the gender aspect, further consolidates our prejudices.
“We must continue to dream big, and in doing so, we empower the next generation of women to be just as bold in their pursuits.”
Dream big, should be our mantra. Settling for something less than what you deserve, should not be an option. We owe to ourselves and the next generation of women, to leave behind a legacy of bold and strong women.
