Melissa McCarthy Slays It For The Nth Time As Sean Spicer In SNL
Toughest act for an actor is to make their audience laugh, put smile on their faces. I can somewhat understand this fact, after watching unbearable slapstick comedy movies churned out year after year by the ‘Bollywood.’ How many of you remember ‘Hera Pheri’? I am sure most of you still do and also watch the hilarious trio with eagerness. Comedians have the toughest act as actors. Making people laugh is not an easy task. But Melissa does it smoothly.
Melissa McCarthy is a powerhouse performer. Her claim to fame being 2011 romcom, Bridesmaids, she had proved herself long before in another beloved sitcom, Gilmore Girls. But her recent outings as an actor has unquestionably established the fact that she’s one helluva actress. Melissa is a badass and her fans adore her for that.
Melissa is not new to SNL (Saturday Night Live), she was in fact nominated for four consecutive years at the Primetime Emmy Awards in the category of an outstanding guest actress in a comedy series. Saturday Night Live has developed into a cult show with the envious running time of three decades. That is no mean feat! Hollywood’s who’s who find it a remarkable achievement to get featured on SNL, which reaffirms their credibility as actors. But Melissa, it’s a walk in the park owing to her exceptional talent. Season 42 and she is killing it impersonating the White House press secretary and US President, Donald Trump’s Communications Director, Sean Spicer.
Spicer was in the news for all the wrong reasons. False claims of inauguration attendance numbers, on his first official statement. He said, "largest audience to ever to witness an inauguration, period – both in person and around the globe." Spicer’s blatant display of hate against media is a well-known fact and has also drawn a lot of amusement. Ironically, Trump and his administration has been giving a lot of fodder to comedy shows, with a deadly display of misogyny, ignorance and high-handedness.
SNL has been spoofing and roasting them a lot lately.
Throughout the eight-minute sketch, McCarthy nailed not only the combative tone with which Spicer addresses the media but also his habit of blaming reporters for questioning statements that he and Trump have made.
We all know how super secular is Trump *coughs* and his soldiers *coughs violently* The #TravelBan says it all ;)
The mock press conference had various question, one of them being that the President intends to run a test assessing whether immigrants “truly love” America. Okay, how would that even work? Duh! Extreme vetting. How does Spicy explain? Well with the help of dollies, Gee!
What follows is a satirical portrayal of the sorry state the country is heading towards.
I am a huge fan of Melissa McCarthy, and especially so when we have a very limited number of female actors slaying it in the genre of comedy. The likes of Melissa have raised the bar for actors to give their best in each and every shot. To rock it in each frame of a scene. And to own the screen time. Women can make you laugh. Being a comedian has nothing to do with gender. Melissa McCarthy, Tina Fey, Amy Schumer, Amy Poehler and Betty White have shown what it takes to be a funny woman. Simply awesome. Here’s to Melissa and her kickass performances both on screen and off, and for spreading happiness! Cheers to her :)
