Meet the Sheroes - Selena Rathore
Today we have in focus a relatively new brand and it’s entrepreneurs who started Nappy Monsters with the aim of selling quality, fun, interesting, children's products across a wide range for young mothers and little ones. Selena Rathore, one of the founder’s talks to us about why they decided to start this venture and what goes into managing a new business and the challenges involved.
You can always learn so much from entrepreneurs and every new day gives you the chance to learn something new!
What is your business all about?
We run Nappy Monsters, a venture that was set-up last year by my mother, sister and I. It is a set-up that manufactures and sources kid’s products ranging from clothing accessories to fun room decor and bath time accessories. We don't have a website as of now, we sell our products through a Facebook store and a couple of other sites.
How did the inspiration to enter this field of work come about?
Nappy Monsters is a venture by finicky mums and is for finicky mums, and the entire inspiration for it comes from my two-year-old daughter Archisha. I have experience in retail, this helps me make better business decisions. As a mom, it's tough to find the right product for your kid, and this too when there are numerous brands that you can shop from.
However, when we became mothers, we realize that there is still a massive gap between the demand and supply of merchandise that would appeal to parents who are extremely cautious about the quality of products. This is where we come in. We just sell products that we would buy for our own young ones. This is why we never bombard our Facebook page with product updates because we are not in a hurry to prove a point like - we can offer ten thousand products to you at any given point of time, and secondly to make products, it takes time.
What does it take to succeed in this line of work?
Even while, I am talking to you at this point of time, I am not clocking fancy sales number because we don’t have a payment gateway on our Facebook store, there is absolutely no offline presence, and it’s a swim against the tide to convince people to shell out for a newer brand like us, but our numbers are increasing every month. This has only been made possible because we have complete faith in our offerings, and we are ready to give it the time it needs to prosper.
What advice can you give upcoming women entrepreneurs and professionals?
Sell what you’ll buy, believe in yourself and your products, take risks, and remember, patience is a virtue.
What are the top 3 things to keep in mind to overcome challenges at the work place?
One, harness the difference of opinion in the team because it helps; two, clearly define everyone’s responsibility because everyone can’t do everything, and thirdly, don’t get too excited about a sale until the buyer doesn’t confirm that they liked the product.
