Have you ever wondered how to get to where you want to be in life? Maybe all you need is the help of a life coach! Today we share the story of Nitasha Anand who talks to us about this field and what it entails.

How did the inspiration to become a 'life coach' come about?

I changed a lot of jobs in the past and I even worked as a health writer, but I didn't find that sort of satisfaction one craves. This led to constant job hopping and professionally, I realized I wasn't growing as a result. Once I quit my last job, I decided not to imemdiately begin looking for another.

After a few months of soul searching I came to the consensus that what I really wanted to do was help people with their struggles and problems. At this time, a lot of things were happening simultaneously in my life; I had also become extremely spiritual by this time and was following and learning from renowned spiritual speakers and leaders. I attended a lot of workshops to learn basic counseling skills until one day I stumbled upon "Life Coaching" purely by accident. I was immediately drawn to the process of life coaching. Today I'm an ICF and CCA Certified 'Masterspirit Life coach' and a 'Mind Body Wellness Coach and my specialty is Relationship Coaching.

Let me introduce you to the 'Concept Of Life Coaching'. Very simply put, Life Coaching is a tool through which you can take your life from where you are now, to where you wish to be in your life. A Life Coach is skilled at drawing out a person's own wisdom to help maximize work or the personal potentials of the client.

In my personal one on one coaching sessions with clients, I empower them by helping them make, meet and exceed their goals in both their personal, professional or social lives. Often people who are unsure about their own life decisions use a life coach or are stuck with certain beliefs which impedes their growth. They find themselves massively trapped in a routine or a rut leading to a life devoid of enjoyment or excitement.

I guide my clients with some effective coaching tools such as 'positive affirmations', 'metaphysical laws or spiritual laws', 'goal setting' and a 'great boost of support & motivation' which ensures restoration of the lost conviction. This helps them live their life to their full potential. I provide the support, direction and guidance needed to let go of the existing limiting beliefs through instrumental life skills which broaden the perspective and open the mind to enable people to live a life of their choice.

Some Definite Benefits of Coaching:

  1. Get to the bottom of who you are: understanding your skills and ambitions.?
  2. Refocus and prioritize your goals.?•
  3. Deal with obstacles that may stand in your way.?
  4. Make choices that are aligned with your vision for how you want to live and who you want to be.

For any real change to happen, it takes time and dedication. That's why it's called a ‘process’, which can't be achieved in a day. Motivation is great but It’s only something that gets you started however habit is what really keeps you going. It takes time to break out of old habits and form new ones.

How does a Life Coach help youngsters and young adults?

Life coaching is beneficial for every age group. Every generation has a different set of problems. The problems that our parents faced are not our problems today. It was a different world then and now it’s a different time. Hence, the children have their own set of problems that are different from their parent’s problems. This is also the reason why many parents are unaware as to how to help their children with the stresses of the current life.

In the last 6 – 8 years I have unlearned a lot of lessons. Parents don’t realize that they are not delivering the right guidance as our environments are forever changing. The process of unlearning old lessons and learning new lessons to adapt with changing times is of paramount importance!

This is what I do in my coaching sessions. Happiness is cultivated by action, and the faster we can unlearn the life lessons that are not serving us, the sooner we can find happiness.

I provide teens and the adults the guidance and support to unlearn these lessons that are creating blocks and barriers on their path with the help of related life skills and other life coaching tools such as; time management, goal setting, evaluating priorities, social skills, self-awareness skills, EFT meditations etc.

For many youngsters and adults, stress has become so common that it has become a way of life for them. Today’s adults are stressed at work as the competition has increased many fold - they face issues meeting deadlines, they have no time for themselves, family or friends, they have high-conflict relationships and so on. Life Coaching can be instrumental in the transcendence of fears, handling these daily life stresses and creation of a new and desired life.

The three major challenges I face in this line of work

Well being a life coach isn’t easy but I don’t tend to see any thing as a challenge. I simply view them as opportunities to learn more and strive more.

But to really point a few, there’s a lot of confusion regarding the concept of coaching. It’s often misunderstood as ‘counseling or therapy’. They are not connected at all. Like I said earlier, life coaching is an interactive process of drawing out a person's own wisdom to help maximize work or the personal potentials of the client through some effective skills and tools. Also, a life coach helps you with life struggles, frustrations and general unhappiness but can’t assist you with traumas and serious depressions unlike the therapists. So that’s a major difference between the two professions.

I would say that most people have accepted stress as ‘natural’,‘a way of life’ and thus they don’t seek any kind of help until it starts creating a havoc in their life like: deteriorating relationships or health. So lack of awareness and willingness to get help is very common among people.

Lack of commitment and hard-work. Some people sign up because they are drowning and they desperately need help but are unable to commit to the process of coaching. They are not willing to do the hard work along with the coach. These kind of clients like readymade answers from the coach for their problems; they are unwilling to do the inner work, assignments or the self-reflection work. They feel if they have to do so much work then the coach really isn’t justifying their fee. True transformation only comes from the self-reflection work with the help of the tools. Its like loosing weight; you can hire a personal trainer to coach you but one has to do the hard work on their body to get desired results. The trainer can’t possibly do that for you.

Words of advice for fellow Sheroes

Continue doing the great work you are doing. I believe a great future doesn’t require a great past.
