Today we have in focus Gunjan Jain, a talented and driven Media professional who works at Oxfam India. These are the two things that help you get ahead in life – is what she believes. The world of media is fascinating in itself, it’s a place stories are told and retold time and again.

Gunjan, a self-proclaimed and an eager professional who has within her the love of stories shares her views with us today,

What line of work are you in?
I work in the field of - News, media and filmmaking

What inspired you to enter this field?

Stories fascinated me. Real life experiences too. Whether reading or watching. How a story was threaded with an issue, the impact that a story could cause, the change that it could help bring. Just a good strong story. I chose the medium of documentary films to tell those stories, bring them to life. Now I'm working in the development sector, trying to scrounge for stories from the ground to connect it to issues, impact policy and just use it as a tool to connect the larger dots.

What do women most lack in the professional front today?

I'm not sure whether it's a gender sensitive question, but I think navigation and finding the right balance.

What advice would you give young women entrepreneurs or careerists?

Find your balance and focus. Why you want to do what you want to do. The answers to those questions will take you to the right doors for recruitment. There's no scarcity of opportunities for a talented and driven professional.

How do you manage to balance your hectic work and life?

It's really not easy. As a single person living in a city like Delhi, you don't realise when work takes over and becomes your whole life. I think for me, the balance came from my unconscious/sub-conscious selection of friends who are full of life and have an eager hunger for exploring the world. Even when I forget or put personal life on the back burner, they keep pushing me and reminding me of all the excitement and adventure around us. They somehow become my anchor and help me strive to maintain that balance. It's an on-going process

What are your short term career plans?

To learn change management and implement it in my new role at Oxfam India.
