Man Acquitted in 7/11 Mumbai Blasts Pens Book To Help ‘Innocents’

Abdul Wahid Shaikh was branded a “terrorist” and held responsible for the 7/11 Mumbai train blasts of 2006, that killed 209 and injured over 700 people.

He was acquitted of all the charges in 2015, but only after spending nine years in jail. During his time at Arthur Road jail in Mumbai, Wahid, a teacher by profession, decided to write his story for the world to know.

In his Urdu book, titled Begunah Qaidi (Innocent Prisoner), Wahid chronicles his journey from the day he was picked up by the police, including the court proceedings as well as the torture he was forced to endure.

Begunah Qaidi also raises questions about the mysterious death of ATS officer Vinod Bhatt. In the book, Wahid claims that all the 12 convicted in the case are innocent.

An English translation of the book, from Pharos Publication, New Delhi, is now in the works.
