When Kangana Ranaut SHUT bhai UP
It takes a hero to always say the right things! National award winning actor Kangana Ranaut has spoken what some others from Bollywood may have felt but were not brave enough to speak out. Bollywood muscleman, actor Salman Khan put his foot in his mouth when he said he felt like a ‘woman who had been raped’, and could not walk after grueling shooting schedules for his film Sultan.
Kangana, when asked to comment on Salman’s 'raped woman' comment, called his, and Bollywood’s, bluff--loud enough for all to hear. "We all agree that it is a horrible thing to say. It's extremely insensitive but I'd also like to say that we shouldn't encourage the tendency to point fingers at each other and feel superior by pulling each other down," a report in the Times of India quotes her as saying.
"As a society, we have to take responsibility and stand united. This is disgraceful for a society, not an individual," said Kangana, adding, "We collectively feel sorry for that thought process."
Salman Khan’s insensitive and crass statement, even if it was supposedly a ‘slip of the tongue,’ and one he later seemed to have regretted, sent shockwaves across social, and later mainstream media.
However, while the internet raged and ranted, Salman Khan’s colleagues from Bollywood maintained a studied silence. Bollywood continued to indulge their ‘bhai’, has turned and stayed hushed, and Salman's father, Salim Khan, ‘apologised’ on behalf of the 50-year-old, on Twitter. It took a brave woman to remind the world how using the word ‘rape’ is an insensitive thing to do. Bravo, Kangana Ranaut, slayer of stereotypes. There is hope for women professionals in the Hindi film industry.
