They started with something that was necessary, went on to do what was possible, and suddenly they were doing the impossible. These ordinary women achieved extra-ordinary feats, and eventually found themselves in the BBC’s list of top 100 inspiring women around the world.

Their tireless efforts to bring their dreams to life is what makes them stand apart in the crowd.

Just like the people who live amongst us and inspire us to reach new levels in life, there are places that motivate us on every visit too.

The war memorial at Zojilla pass

This memorial has been erected to honor the martyred Indian soldiers from the Kargil war. The war stories carved on the walls are inspiring for every Indian. The best time to visit Zojilla pass is from May to October. The pass is approached from Sonmarg, Kashmir.

The Assam Tea Gardens

Watching the Assamese women work with infants tied to their backs is an inspiration. They work for long hours and their main source of energy is the sweet black tea they sip every few hours.  The best time to visit these luscious greens is right after the monsoons, between August and February.

The Gandhi Ashram, Ahmedabad

The story of our national freedom fighters along with the Father of Our Nation is well displayed in the Gandhi Ashram. His non-violent ways are truly inspirational for every generation. There are Gandhiji’s followers who spend the entire day here. The best time to visit is from October to April.

Poems are capable of steering one’s soul. The poets wrote about time, about courage, and about what cancer cannot do to them. These pieces are timeless classics, to be enjoyed by readers for many more years to come:

There is still time
Poet: Anonymous

If there is a future, there is time for mending-

Time to see your troubles coming to an ending.

Life is never hopeless however great your sorrow-

If you're looking forward to a new tomorrow.

Through the road of freedom
Poet: Nelson Mandela

I have walked that long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can only rest for a moment, for with freedom come responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not ended

What cancer cannot do
Poet: Dr. Robert Lynn

Cancer is so limited that:

It cannot cripple love

It cannot shatter hope

It cannot corrode faith

It cannot destroy peace

It cannot kill friendship

It cannot suppress memories

It cannot silence courage

It cannot invade the soul

It cannot steal eternal life

It cannot conquer the spirit

You have to find your inner strength; the world needs fighters. There is no greater way to find inspiration than to watch the ones around us thrive in situations that cannot be tougher.
