In Stats: Ashwin’s Most Deliveries Record and Marsh’s Slowest 50

The Indian bowlers bowled with a lot of intent on day two of the second Test between India and Australia at Bengaluru on Sunday.

They constantly put pressure on the Australians throughout the day, but the visitors still managed to eke out a 48-run lead at the end of day’s play.

Matt Renshaw and Shaun Marsh’s gritty fifties helped Australia post 237/6 until the close of play.

India’s premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who has bowled a total of 41 overs in the match so far, surpassed Anil Kumble’s record for the most deliveries bowled in a Test cricket season on Sunday.

• 162 | Balls taken by Shaun Marsh to get to his half-century – his slowest in Test cricket. His previous slowest fifty was off 133 balls – against Sri Lanka at Pallekele in 2011.
• 3701 | Balls bowled by Ravichandran Ashwin in Test matches in this home season. He holds the record for the most overs bowled by a bowler in a Test cricket season. The Indian coach Anil Kumble held the record previously when he bowled 3,673 balls in 11 Tests in the 2004-05 season.

• 8 | Number of times David Warner has been dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin. He holds the record for taking the most wickets of one particular batsman.
• 8 | Score for which Steven Smith was dismissed – only his second single-digit score in 15 Test innings against India.
• 32 | Wickets taken by Ravindra Jadeja in Test matches against Australia. Out of these 32 wickets, 8 are of the Australian captain. In Bengaluru, Jadeja dismissed Steven Smith, caught down the leg-side.
• 183 | Balls taken by Matt Renshaw to get to his half-century – his slowest in his young Test career.
• 140 | Australia's score after 71.2 Overs – which was the number of overs the Indian innings lasted. Batting first, India were bowled out for 189 in 71.2 Overs.
• 23 | Overs bowled by Ishant Sharma in the innings. The last time Ishant Sharma bowled more than 21 overs in a Test innings was against Australia at Brisbane in 2014, which was 14 Tests ago.
