I Can Be a Feminist & Have Boobs: Emma Watson on Photo Shoot Row
In a recent interview, Harry Potter actress Emma Watson responded to the criticism she faced for the Vanity Fair photo shoot.
The photograph in question, where Watson’s breasts were partially visible was met with a lot of apprehension on social media. She was called a hypocrite for betraying her feminist stance with the image.
While promoting her upcoming film, Beauty and the Beast, she talked about the controversy.
“I’m always just king of quietly stunned,” she added. “They’re saying I couldn’t be a feminist and have b**bs.”
When the Vanity Fair photos went live, social media was quick to shun Emma Watson’s well-known work for gender equality. Many brought up a comment Watson had made about Beyonce’s depiction of feminism in 2014, and said she was a hypocrite for going back on her words.
However, others have argued that Watson made that comment about 3 years ago, which is a long time for people and their opinions to change.
Watson, who is a global ambassador for the United Nations, helped UN Women launch the #HeForShe campaign. She has also spoken against the gender pay gap in the recent past and started a feminist book club called Our Shared Shelf.
