Stay Healthy To Climb The Corporate Ladder – Small Changes Have Big Results
Sangeeta was a go-getter. She was on the way to be a SVP at her corporation after 7 years of hard work and putting in long hours while also managing her family obligations at home.
When she was a young woman, she could run all day from home to office, juggle the cooking managing the house staff, taking care of her in-laws needs and also making time for closeness with her husband and her kids.
Now it seemed that the faster she climbed the corporate ladder, the less time she had for herself. Her fitness routine had gone for a toss, and she was eating more meals at restaurants while leading business meetings. As she aged, she could see her body responding to the long hours and home pressures in different ways – first presenting itself as tiredness and lethargy and then moving on to getting sick more often. Sure, she always managed to bounce back, but this left her thinking – how can I get back to the energetic woman I once knew?
Slowly but surely Sangeeta made some small changes in her routine to focus more on herself. The first thing she did was go back to her walking routine – with a twist.
Since time in the morning was precious, and at night she was busy spending time with the family and finishing up office work, she opted for walking meetings with her colleagues. Every time she had a meeting, she asked her colleagues to go walking with her so they could talk while moving. This small change increased her energy levels and she even felt more trim after a month of making this small change.
Another thing she tried was replacing the cups of sugary chai with water and green tea when she felt she needed a mid-afternoon boost. From drinking 4-5 cups of tea a day to only consuming 2 cups of green tea when she really needed it, this reduction of caffeine and sugar changed her appearance for the better. Her skin glowed, she lost that sugar crash she usually got around 3pm, and she started to enjoy the taste of clean cool water more.
Over the course of 3-4 months, the small changes Sangeeta made increased her energy levels and made her lighter leaner, and more ready to face the challenges of the day. She continued to excel in her position at work, even securing the biggest client deal of her career while managing these lifestyle changes. She was healthy happy, and more successful than ever – while changing her lifestyle slowly by making better choices about her health.
