Who doesn’t remember the fantastic Hermoine Granger from the Harry Potter film franchise? The famous character was essayed by the gorgeous Emma Watson. Her stellar acting skills have won her a plethora of accolades.

Road to the top

Emma’s journey to fame has not been a cakewalk. Juggling studies and movie shoots as a child artist was one challenge she had to grapple with. She was also diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) at a young age. These impediments, however, couldn’t thwart her from reaching the pinnacle of success. “We have unbelievably high expectations of ourselves, when actually we’re human beings and our bodies have a function,” is one of her famous quotes that never fails to resonate with feminists worldwide.

The star

Apart from her acting skills, her stardom stems from the fact that she’s one of the most outspoken women in the industry. Recognized as a fashionista, she’s also a fitness freak, passionate about outdoor sports like tennis and netball. She has also received recognition for her immaculate dancing skills.

The feminist

In a world constantly trying to subjugate women, Emma has proven that dogged determination and resoluteness can help women progress without being reliant on anyone. Her ‘HeForShe’ campaign that urged men to stand up for women’s rights won her a lot of supporters. This stupendous initiative for gender equality consolidated Emma’s reputation as a young feminist who doesn’t shy away from voicing her opinions openly.

She is an ardent believer of the fact that education and political participation of women are prerequisites for achieving gender equality in the world. Her appointment as the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador in 2014 gave her a strong platform to channelize her efforts in the direction of women empowerment. She also aims at spreading awareness on issues of mental health and animal rights.

Now, Beauty and the beast

After proving her mettle in movies like The Perks of Being A Wallflower, This Is The End and Noah, Emma will now be seen in Bill Condon’s movie Beauty and Beast, playing the character Belle. It is a live-action remake of Disney’s 1991 animated film of the same name.

A romantic fantasy musical film scheduled to release on 17th March, Beauty and The Beast will definitely be a visual treat for all those waiting to see more of Emma’s work.
