Maharashtra CM’s Wife Walks The Ramp!
Breaking stereotypes seems to be the protocol that Amruta Fadnavis, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis’ wife, follows.
After debuting as a playback singer for a Bollywood film, this top official of a private bank and a singer walked the ramp for a fashion designing school in Mumbai recently. Eyebrows were undoubtedly raised, and she was questioned as to how this move reflected on her in her role as the wife of the chief minister of Maharashtra. It was a pretty rare move for the wife of a political leader and came with the expected 'OhMyGod' reactions.
Settling the minor storm before it turned into a furore, Amruta Fadnavis responded in her usual forthright manner saying that she cares for social causes, and this was her way of doing her bit for a social cause. The cause here: Supporting the fashion design students in their initiative to revive tribal art.
The fashion show was organised by the students of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Mumbai, and focused on the revival of Maharashtrian culture through art and craft, along with some other dying art and weaving forms.
Besides roping in the CM’s wife to be the show-stopper, the students also had got in known Maharashtrian celebrities such as Renuka Shahane, Ashutosh Gowariker, Sandip Soparrkar, Harsha Bhogle, Sonali Kulkarni, Bharat Dabholkar and Shobha De.
For the inauguration, Amruta Fadnavis wore Hemant Trivedi’s creation–a dress inspired by the art of the Warli tribe of Maharashtra. And for the show-stopper part, she wore a Paithani weave long kurti.
Simplicity, lofty ideals and working for a purpose--Amruta Fadnavis, you are truly an inspiring First Lady of the State.
