Aiding Cancer Patients After Losing A Near One To The Chronic Disease
#VoicesOfCommunity featuring Ranu Jain, Founder, MySanika, a registered charitable non-governmental organization (NGO) working against the Cancer as a disease.
“Life was going smooth around 13 years ago. One fine day we got to know that our father has been detected with the dreadful disease of Cancer. It shook the whole family as me and my younger brother were studying and our father was the only earning member of the family. Our mother took a bold step and she started handling the business along with taking care of our father and the entire family. We had spent so much money in his treatment, inspite of that she still sent me to study out of Indore, in one of the most expensive institutes of India. She took a loan for this. My father passed away around three and half years ago, and that very day I had decided to do something for the needy cancer patients. Around a year ago on January 10, 2016 I started an NGO, My Sanika Cancer Care Society. I know the pain of losing someone who is very close to you. I don’t want anyone to feel this pain. We try our best to help the needy ones who can’t afford the treatment. The cancer survivors are our inspiration. We are also, spreading awareness among people especially the youngsters about this disease. We are targeting to cover all the schools of India in the next 10 years. Everybody thought that my plan is of no use and is a waste of time as I won’t earn anything. I listened to my heart and did what I want to do. The most difficult part was to build the trust, as people don’t trust NGOs that easily. So, we kept our accounts open to all those who started getting associated with us. We wanted to make sure that all the money is being used correctly.Till date we have organized 7 fundraising events and have helped 8 needy cancer patients. Entrepreneurship is a revolution that is taking shape among women. Being a mother while running your own organization and working in an IT company was very challenging. Another most difficult challenge was to make my family realize that whatever I am doing will impact people’s life. My husband played a very important role in making them understand.
I spend all my free time with my 2 year old kid Kabeer. He is my biggest stress-buster :)
