Father’s day is almost here. I was wondering what to send my dad. I thought about what things he likes. And then I was taken to all the times I have spent with him – him dropping us to school, picking us up later, taking us for picnics, vacations, grandmother’s house, doctor’s visit, competitions, cheering for us when we were competing, buying us our first of everything.

Remembering those times, I realized that he has taught us so much through his ways and what I am today is because of him. Here are a few lessons from my father, that he taught us –

‘Satya vachan(True words)’: If you cannot tell any ONE about your deeds, you are doing something wrong

‘Karma kar, fal ki iccha na kar’: Results are not in your hand, but hard work is. Be patient. Good will come. Concentrate on what you can do.

‘Samay ki kadra karo’: Time is limited – yours as well as people you interact with. Also once gone, you never get it back. Be wise. Use it properly

‘Confusion hai to parchi daalo’: When you are confused between two things and unable to pick and your inner voice is too faint, pick up a chit. You would know exactly what to do

‘Subah ghoomne jao': What he meant was to go for a walk or just get up early and take care of your health

‘Samay se pehle aur kismet se zyaada kisi ko kuch nahin milta’: he did not believe in kismet (luck) but he believes in time. When the time is right, everything falls in place. If it’s not the time yet, there are still something which need to be done

‘Izzat karo, izzat pao’: Give respect to your elders, no matter who they are. Give respect to younger people, set an example for them.

‘Jo karo, mann laga kar karo’: Always do what you like or what you want to do. If you don’t enjoy what you are doing, don’t do it.
