Shefali Nagarkar wanted to get back to work. It had already been a year since she had "taken a break". When thinking about returning to the workforce though she had her share of doubts. She really wanted a more flexible routine this time around and a comfortable work-from-home experience. But, were there such offers out there?
She found out about SHEROES and decided to step into the community to see what it was all about. A month after joining, PlugHR found her profile and before she knew it, discussions began, numbers were discussed and Shefali was hired to take on the role of HR community manager, right from home.
What does it feel like to work from home? "My schedule is not fixed," she says. "But you have to be disciplined. Once my child leaves for school, I devote my time to work. Earlier in the day I do the lighter tasks like check and reply to e-mails. But once I’m home alone, it’s all about work till about 3 pm. I have a small space set-up at home where I sit isolated. I ensure that I’m always reachable and connected though, that’s the most important part of working from home. If I’m not on the laptop after my son returns, I’m always available on my phone."
So does work from home as a scope have future prospects? Many returning professionals like Shefali believe it does. "This gives me a good flex-friendly opportunity for the long term. It's great for people coming back to work after taking a break. I will stick to this platform for a while," she says. There are many qualified professionals like Shefali who prefer to opt for work from home opportunities. Some of the most common reasons experienced women professionals think about more flexible job options after a point is because of their young children, family commitments, etc. But this space is not explored much. "If more employers came forward and tapped this talented market of professional, qualified women willing to work from home, it would work wonders," says Shefali. It’s great for people who cant work full-time.
PlugHR - provides HR services to start-ups and small / mid-size enterprises. Shefali has worked in the same field prior to taking a break from work.
