Roshni Chaudhary, currently a hiring manager at PlugHr spent 8 years in the field of human resources until she decided to take a break to look after her little daughter. A few years later, when she tried to look out for full-time work opportunities again she was met with closed doors. Why?
Because no one seemed to want an employee who had a gap in her career. Roshni was eager to begin full-time corporate work again and every dead end got more demotivating.
When she heard about the SHEROES platform, Roshni decided to explore and see what this was all about. She uploaded her CV and shared her professional details on the network and got a call from PlugHR within a few days. She now works as a Hiring Manager, from home.
“I would have opted for a full-time job.” Says Roshni, “but because my daughter was just 4, I wasn’t sure about sending her to a day care center. So I started looking out for part-time opportunities. I didn’t want anything beyond 1 or 2 o clock just so that I could spend time with my daughter when she returned from school.”
Roshni completes a year of working with PlugHR from home this January. When asked if she would like to make this a permanent work environment, she seems comfortable with the idea of working from home for the next few years at least. “I would continue with this for a while. I don’t want to go back to full time. This feels good. It feels good to give time to my child and to be able to involve myself in her activities. My husband works long hours so this is better, I'd do this for the next 4- 5 years at least”, she adds.
So what is a typical day like for Roshni? She waits for her daughter to leave for school and then focuses on her work from 9am to 1 pm, or until her daughter returns. After that, it’s all about the home and family.
Roshni says she’s thankful to SHEROES for enabling this opportunity. What else helps her at the workplace is that her Director is a woman and works from home, full-time as well! So the support and understanding is obviously heightened for her. If employers were to step out and tap into the potential of qualified, experienced women who are willing and eager to work from home, they could have quite a talented work force. With the digital age picking up pace, its time employers take more notice of remote work options. The focus should be on hiring capable employees and location shouldn't be a prime criteria anymore.
Adds Roshni, “there are many women who want to have a career and look after their child at the same time. Women are capable of handling both, women just need the right platform to do so.”
