"Nothing Scares Me About Marriage" - Divyanka Tripathi

Divyanka Tripathi is one of the most popular actors on the tube today. She played the lead in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, a show with the highest TRP. Male protagonist and beau Vivek Dahiya is an equally popular face. The fans of the couple have been rejoicing since their relationship became official. Engaged in January this year, they are tying the knot today.

Generally people like to get married in winter, what was it that made you finalise on a monsoon one?

Everyone told us to have a winter wedding, but that would mean waiting till the end of the year. That was way too much for us! We didn't want to wait for that long. I am so glad our families supported us.

How does it feel to be in the same profession as your partner? Is it easier or tougher?

I feel it's much better that your partner is from the same profession as you have so much that you can talk about. You can talk about your work, about career expectations. In fact, it gets easy to understand professional needs as you too are going through the same thing.

But yes, I have to admit that there was a time when I thought that, for an actress, a businessman or a person from another professional field would be better. But if I see my situation now, if I was not getting married to someone from the industry, he would have not understood my way of working and my non availability throughout the marriage preparations. He might have also had issues with my work schedules or maybe the kind of scenes I do onscreen. I think it's a blessing that I have got a person from the industry.

What is the one relationship rule that you never break?

Oh, I have a couple of them! I think the one relationship rule that I'll never break is that I'll never sleep without resolving a fight. I don’t think I can ever do that. Also, I feel that I will never lie to my partner. I understand that there will be times when the truth is very harsh, but even at that time I'll try and break it to him very softly. Another big rule for me will be that I will never ever hide anything from Vivek.

Marriages are a great time to celebrate, but it's also the time when you receive a lot of advice. What is the relationship advice that has struck you as important?

I have been getting advice from all corners! My sister advised me that I should give enough respect my would-be husband's family and take them as my family.

Another important and very difficult advice my mother gave me was to never make my would-be husband a complaint box. Women tend to complain all the time and that, my mom says, will ruin a relationship. It’s important to talk to each other and come up with a solution together.

One relationship advice my father gave me was to never let ego come in between us. For me, the relationship between my parents and my sister and brother-in-law are perfect and I would like to be like them down the line.

Is there anything about marriage that scares you or something that you are apprehensive about?

Nothing scares me about marriage, I feel that it is so beautiful that marriage enables two people to be in a relationship for life. And it is true that marriages are made in heaven. No matter how many people you meet along the way, you will only end up with the right person. A person has to be truly blessed for such a union. Thankfully, I have seen only successful relationships around me. I feel so motivated and inspired by looking at them. I am really looking forward to being with Vivek.

Since both of you are public figures, does the public glare ever bother you?

Being in the public gaze has never really bothered me. I don't have a set rule about either guarding my personal life or telling everyone about it. I react according to situations. If the situation demands, I keep my personal life personal. I am here because of my fans, so I don’t have much to complain.

What is the one thing that you love about each other and the one thing which you want to change in each other?

I would not want to change anything in him at all. I am not just saying this because I am marrying him, but I feel that he is the perfect package. I have accepted everything about him. I also believe that God has created us in a perfect manner. If I try to change anything in him, it might just create an imbalance and hamper the harmony. I love Vivek's wit and wisdom. He has a balance of both. That is the best quality about him.

He is very supportive and caring. He is such a mature person. I have always been independent when it comes to taking care of myself, be it managing a house or my finances. For the first time someone will take care of me, make me feel protected, and go out of his way to see whether I am comfortable or not. He makes me confident as a person. He has filled me with positivity and I love the woman I have become.
