Over the last year or so, the Mumbai Police has impressed social media users with their wit and humour on Twitter. However, columnist Shobhaa De found out about this the hard way after she attempted to body-shame Mumbai police personnel.
Inspired by the heavy police deployment in Mumbai, for the BMC elections on 21 February, De tweeted the following:
Heavy police bandobast in Mumbai today! pic.twitter.com/sY0H3xzXl3
— Shobhaa De (@DeShobhaa) February 21, 2017
Here is how the Mumbai Police responded:
We love puns too Ms De but this one is totally imisplaced. Uniform/official not ours. We expect better from responsible citizens like you. https://t.co/OcKOoHO5bX

While De’s tweet is in bad taste, it was also copied off another tweet.
.@MumbaiPolice you can forgive her for not being a responsible citizen but you should charge her for Copying others Tweet. pic.twitter.com/PjNUI1z5pA

The columnist’s tweet drew severe criticism. Twitter is a mean place, Shobha De. Perhaps meaner than you are for body shaming!
Well done @MumbaiPolice Citizens need to respect our men in uniform who toil hard, night & day. Can't be fashionable to make fun of cops. https://t.co/E45z1Bvw22

Kudos to @MumbaiPolice for giving a much needed Slap on the face to @DeShobhaa for insulting Men in Uniform without verifying facts pic.twitter.com/l4tTq8m9V7
