“I will always love music the most, but selection in the army came as a pleasant surprise and a confidence boost,” exclaims head of Corporate Communications, Gionee India, Deepika Singh. She has over 16 years of diverse experience in the field of communications and branding, and is an integral part of the core Corporate Strategy team at Gionee India.
Prior to Gionee, Deepika has held several senior positions in leading communication advisories like Perfect Relations, IPAN Hill & Knowlton and Concept, where she worked on reputation management mandates for leading Indian and Multinational organizations.
Deepika recounts that she was never fiercely ambitious but had the drive to keep working. She didn’t want to give up on work, anytime in her life. Deepika had planned to take up music, but she saw herself drifted to this profession and now she has taken over with all guns blazing as the CR head of Gionee India.
A meritorious student, Deepika completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, English and History from Lucknow University. Followed by a Diploma from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in the discipline of Advertising & Public Relations.
Deepika’s graph has been interesting; An avid musician, accomplished Indian classical singer, she holds monthly jam sessions at her place. That’s the creative outlet she indulges in during her free time. Not only that, interestingly she was also declared a recommended candidate for the rank of Lieutenant in the Army (Women Entry Scheme (O) 16) 2000 by the Service Selection Board, Bhopal.
Her work is not just confined within the conference rooms. Deepika’s commitment to philanthropic work is with an NGO named Leukaemia Crusaders. They provide treatment to children fighting against leukaemia. Till now 300 children have been treated in various hospitals across India.
Time management and patience is of essence as she believes it is important to keep performing and breaking stereotypes. Deepika did face opposition from her family in the early stages, but eventually they gave into her passion and now they are her biggest supporters.
For Deepika the best takeaway from her work is the freedom she gets to take independent decisions and experiment. Her mantra to reign in chaos is by dealing with life one step at a time.
