Mompreneurs – The New Face Of Motherhood

With Mother’s Day just done with, everyone is in the mood to celebrate motherhood in their own special way. While being a mother is usually associated with responsibilities and sacrifices, women today are making it big in other areas too. They are planned, innovative and they make a significant population of entrepreneurs in the world. Meet the new generation of mompreneurs – she is actively balancing motherhood and business.

From IT start-ups to fashion stores, from restaurants to organic farming, these momprenurs are exploring every business possible. When someone says that entrepreneurship is a woman’s last option to work after becoming a mother, my reaction is “Really?” and even if it is what about the struggle and hard work a woman faces to balance family and a startup?

I work with a woman owned international firm and I have closely observed the work style that women bring to their business. How these women are accomplishing their dream to entrepreneurship stems from their spirit to experiment and excel.

She is a natural multi- tasker

She doesn’t have to own a business to prove that, you see her managing and multi-tasking in almost everything and every-time. Be it at home or work, in relationships or clients, she knows the art of doing it all together. Believe me, when she plans to start a business, she is already committed to the efforts involved.

She is approachable

When a woman is in business, her customers, employees and even clients feel comfortable to approach her with complaints, suggestions and expectations. She is patience and understanding and thus gives ease to those around her.

Online business resources and social media is giving her more opportunities

Let’s accept it, a bigger credit for growing number of mompreneurs goes to the virtual, online world we are living in. It has given more flexibility to women in term of availability and options to run her own business from anywhere and deal with anyone. Online counselling, IT consulting, app development, content writing, web designing are some of the many options that women are able to start and operate from comfort of their home.

She is collaborative

And you already know this. She has amazing capability of bringing ideas, resources and people together. Many women owned business today started as a common platform for sharing and exchanging thoughts, as simple as blogging and gradually grew to big business ideas. A Vancouver mom started an initiative with her friends to exchange used kids stuff that outgrow size or utility with age and today she is the owner of Canada’s most popular online store for kids clothing.

Despite the growing number of mompreneurs, women often face challenges in the form of access to information, resources and capital. If you are a mom who owns or is planning to start a new business, here are some helpful resources
