Born and bought up in parts of Punjab, I am a Punjabi by heart as well. Thanks to my father’s government job, I explored many places within the state. After my graduation from Chandigarh, and post graduation from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai, I served the corporate world for almost five years, while at the same time following my passion for teaching. For the past six years, I have been coaching students for the GMAT exam as a freelance teacher. A mother to two beautiful kids, I am a teacher, yogini, blogger, runner, homemaker and an avid trekker. I miss no opportunity to go--either on my own or with my kids--to the mountains, as I am extremely passionate about yoga and mountain climbing/ hiking
I made health and fitness my calling
I had been physically active since childhood, all thanks to my father. He used to wake me at dawn and I went cycling with him. However, it was only as an adult--that too, once I got pregnant--that I realised I had caught the “fitness bug”. During my pregnancy, I started brisk walks and yoga.
Fitness has come to me quite naturally, and I hope to do a lot more about it now that my kids are growing up, gradually leaving me with more time for myself. It’s the only career I didn’t choose. It’s seeped into my life without me realising it.
I hail from a Punjabi family and we are known to be foodies. I used to eat everything with the goodness of ghee, and sweets. I guess I am blessed with good metabolism, and inherited physically hyperactive genes from my father; so I never gained a lot of weight. It was only after my first baby that I figured that maintaining a healthy body needs work. And that I am not 25 anymore, and my metabolism needs a kick with good food and good exercise.
Wellthy.fit was incepted in my head when I was carrying my second child.
Then it went and stayed at the back of my head! A year ago, it came into my consciuos thoughts. During my second pregnancy, I walked a lot on a daily basis, but I never saw any pregnant woman walking or attending the pre-natal yoga classes. How can pregnancy make a woman exclude fitness from her life? Why are we asked to eat for two? How can a sedentary lifestyle be good at any stage of our lives? All these questions muddled my mind, and I decided to write. After two years of raising my little ones, I finally decided to put down in words, my take on fitness. I am trying to make wellthy.fit an interesting fitness magazine.
Wellthy.Fit's mission is to take everyone on an awesome fitness journey.
My first and foremost offering is rich content on every aspect of health and fitness--right from running, yoga, pilates, fitness food, meditation and mind-body connection to finding the right workout classes and fitness apparel, books and products. We want to touch upon every fitness-related topic under the sun. To keep you informed, motivated and inspired, we are happy to bring in the right people who can coach you. We are also looking at promoting good fitness products, healthy food options, talking about restaurants and cafes that sell good, healthy food. We will soon release running plans and diet plans for women and men to help them get the best results from their workouts. We want to bring fitness to people in a non-judgmental, fun and inclusive way. As very outspoken fitness gatherers and without being extreme, we are dedicated to helping people start and maintain a deliberately fit life!
A healthy lifestyle goes beyond exercising and eating.
I would ask myself: Am I getting enough sleep, or spending hours on WhatsApp, skipping breakfast, eating too much or too little, lacking physical activity? The answers to all these questions are basically what define my lifestyle as healthy or unhealthy.
Sitting in front of the computer for too long is unhealthy in absolute terms. However, if there is no way out and your work demands it, then there are ways to fit in 10 minutes of yoga in about three hours of sitting. It works wonders. How about getting a green tea and eating some raw nuts? The combination is refreshing--it helps you focus and fights fatigue.
My fitness ruless:
Eat a balanced and nutritious diet.
Combine yoga, running, and workout at the gym once a week.
Try different workouts--skipping the rope, hula hoop, aerobic exercise or even mop the floors.
Work in a way that makes you feel, “I went out of my way to do it.”
That’s the thing, we can either wallow that we have no time to exercise, or we can make time for it. When we do the latter, we make a smart choice--that’s called being healthy. It’s our sheer will-power that makes us move!
