Meet the Sheroes - Arunima Basu

'If you are strong, no one can break you!'

Today’s Shero spares some time to speak to us about her interesting venture FilmSpeak and her thoughts on professionalism and women at the workplace. FilmSpeak is a community of ‘Filmaholics and Bloggers’.

Let’s see what Arunima Basu has to say to us today!

What field of work are you presently in?

Our area of function is mainly the alternative film industry and content development. Apart from making our own short films, we have been covering almost all the big budget Bengali movies, while our content team specializes in website development and blogs for several USA/ UK based clients.

Recently, we started collaborating with the Institute of Research, Rehabitalization and Education in 2015, for improving the lives of physically challenged individuals.

What have you learnt over the years professionally that helps you in your daily life?

What are the changing trends you see in working women today?

Today more women are stepping towards professionalism and self-employment. They are ready to take chances, which is indeed commendable. Only a few years ago, one could have hardly imagined that one can leave their jobs for designing jewelry and setting up their own business!

Organizations like Milaap, Sheroes and others, have been extending helping hands towards women. Along with money, confidence is also very vital especially among the less privileged women.

What are the top 3 challenges one needs to overcome to succeed professionally?

Ego, laziness and jealousy

What tips would you give fellow working women today?

I see a lot of girls rushing home for safety issues. What I have felt strongly is, one must have flexible work timings, in order to win the race! If you cannot, there are numerous skilled people to replace you.

As a woman, we have to deal with the flirtatious attitudes and insulting proposals in our workplace. But remember, if you are strong enough nobody can break you. Be polite, but always keep your eyes and ears open rather than trusting or depending on someone completely!
