#BookReview: I Made A Booboo--When A Baby Is Born, A Mother Is Born Too

When weddings are around the corner in India, families go all out to ensure EVERYTHING--from the snacks to the dessert and the flower arrangements--are in place. Now, when a bahu shares the impending good news of a soon-to-arrive newborn, chaos begins again! From solicited and unsolicited advice, families (again) revel in the “celebration”.

I Made a Booboo by author Shivangi Sharma is a wonderful book centred around a mom who had parenting sorted until she had a baby--as the title suggests!

The book was written with humour as the mainstay. The author finds humour in everything related to her newborn. From pregnancy turmoils to the discomfort that comes during those nine months, she voices her thoughts and perspectives in a funny yet truthful way.

If you are someone who doesn’t like the typical parenting books, this one is just for you!

They say when a baby is born, a mother is born too:

One can easily make out the frustrations most moms have to go through in their initial days of mommyhood while reading the book. But the truth is, at the end of the day, most moms wish to do it all--all over again.

There must be something about Mothers and their babies--it’s a bond that’s natural yet unnatural in its closeness and expectations. Imagine loving a little being that vomits on you, pinches you, doesn’t listen to you--and then loving it for life!

What makes the book a good read is that every parent and parent-to-be will relate to every word, description and thought in the book. While most parents-to-be do often choose to invest in hoards of parenting books (as did the author of I Made a Booboo), the blissful truth that one can take away from this book is that every child is different, every parent is different. There can’t be ‘rules” put in place when it comes to parenting. The only common factor linking it all is that every parent wants what’s best for their child.

Shivangi talks about the general issues most new or first-time moms deal with. She explores the thought process most of these moms go through while writing about choosing between work and looking after the baby full-time. Funny how several moms choose to do the latter!

If you are ready for a light read, some humour and a lot of laughs, check out I Made a Booboo and experience what this new mother went through after birthing her first child.
