For Anuj Kulkarni, his entrepreneurship dream kept getting bigger and bigger through his time in the B-school, eventually, after identifying the area he wanted to serve and dwelling deep into the idea to gain knowledge he took the final plunge to build a social enterprise in India. Prajwal Bharat or “Light up India” is a social enterprise that aims to provide energy efficient street lighting in villages across India.
The company stats over the last four years are quite impressive more than a million dollars in revenue and about 600 villages reached already. To reach this stage he said because his fundamentals were strong and clear, scaling was relatively smooth and the growth partnerships with the government came out easily.
Social Entrepreneurship is about providing a solution to a problem that benefits the society at large. In developing countries like India, lighting is one of those major gaps. Anuj, shares his insights, the initial business plan and the journey ahead.
